Misspelled Words Can Give You Traffic Too?

Misspelled words can apparently give you traffic, and definitely more traffic then you’d expect. And believe it or not, a lot of people take full advantage of this to get the traffic, so why shouldn’t you do the same?

My first example has to be JohnCow.com in which a site made based from JohnChow.com. Notice the similarities between the two? A lot of people wouldn’t even realize the two are two completely different sites.

Well, the original owner of the JohnCow.com took advantage of all those people accidentally spelling the dot com mogul, John Chow’s name wrong. I mean, we all do that once in a while, don’t we? Especially if we’re typing too fast and miss a letter and end up on some pornographic website, or in this case, at JohnCOW.com rather than JohnCHOW.com.

Now there are actually tons and tons of misspelled keywords that get a lot of traffic, you just need to know how to look those up. For instance, there was an article I saw titled Utube, Yotube, Yutube, Youtude: Take Advantage of Misspelled Words which was definitely interesting because people take advantage of the popular sites and use it for their own benefits.

This is actually a smart thing to do and I’m going to be implementing that on this website as well.

So, have there been any misspelled words that you have seen giving your site some added traffic?

Google [Knowl] instead of [Knol] has sent me a bunch of traffic. I capitalized on the typo with a post about it :)

Besides, wouldn’t the visitors disappointed that they did not end up with what they want?

I once have do the spelling mistake.

I want to chaeck my email at GMail.

Instead of spell Gmail, I spell it Gamil…

    And guess what?
    It’s a site that sell something…

And in the heading it said,

“Maybe you reach the site by intention to GMail, but fee free to browse around…”

    What did I do?
Hit close and type gmail again….

That was the day before I know about blogging, domain, adsense, etc…
