Is Blogging Idol Really Worth It?

I’m sure some of you guys are aware of the Blogging Idol contest that is going on as we speak. And for those of you guys not aware of it, well, it’s basically a competition in which the winner is determined by the amount of RSS Feed subscribers one can gain within a given period. Well, is it really worth it to enter?

I first heard about the competition from DatMoney.com and then I went over to the Dailyblogtips.com to check it out. Personally, I didn’t enter because of the fact that there are over 100 contestants, plus, if I read correctly, the first one gathered a lot of attention but not all of it was good.

Matter of fact, most of it was accusing the top contestants of cheating by artificially inflating their RSS Feed numbers.

So, there are many pros and cons with the Blogging Idol contest but which one does it favor more?

Pros:

- You can added publicity
- Backlinks from Dailyblogtips.com and any other blogs
- You get a chance to win great prizes including $1,000 cash
- You get to check out new blogs you would have never known about and network

Cons:

- You have to deal with people cheating
- Spammers – believe it or not, I heard some contestants were e-mailing everyone to get links, exchange RSS Feeds, etc
- Self-esteem issues when you lose
- You’re so involved with that, you lose focus on everything else

I know the Pros definitely outweigh the cons but you have to look at both side of the issue.

Should you have even bothered entering in the contest if you managed to gain 13 subscribers in the last six months? Probably not. And that’s another reason why I didn’t because anyone could have entered with no real requirements.
