John Chow Can Help You Without Him Knowing

Written by admin on July 8, 2008 – -

John Chow has become one of the most well-known dot com moguls out there, I mean, his name John Chow is mentioned almost everywhere. But the thing people don’t even realize is the fact that his name John Chow can help you with search engine traffic.

I’m sure a lot of John Chow haters could careless and wouldn’t bother mentioning his name on a single post but chances are in your favor to be ranked on the first page.  Matter of fact, you can probably be ranked #1 for John Chow since his own blog doesn’t appear until the 6th or 7th page.

Of course, to do this you need to know some SEO.  But word around the Blogosphere is if you rank #1, you’ll probably be getting an extra 75-100 unique visitors from search engines.

Hey, that sounds pretty good to me.  Why do you think I’m writing an entire post simply for John Chow?  Give it a try and let me know how well you rank for it!

What’s the Worst Thing About Starting a ‘Make Money Online’ Blog?

Written by admin on April 29, 2008 – -

I can’t even believe I just asked that question, “What’s the worst thing about starting a ‘Make Money Online’ Blog?” And believe me, there are endless reasons why people shouldn’t start these types of blogs or shouldn’t even consider touching this niche. But if you had to choose one reason, what would it be?

Need help? I’m sure you don’t, but since I’m technically typing to myself at the moment, I’m going to supply some of my own reasons (in no particular order).

First, there are way too many “Make Money Online” blogs in the Blogosphere. Yes, I understand I’m just adding to the already heavily populated niche but my goal is to take advantage of my knowledge and reputation to build this site up and eventually sell it to someone that does not want to do the start up work. Especially the fact, that is one of the worst parts of starting a blog in general. You have to basically start from scratch.

Secondly, a large majority of people who start MMO blogs have no clue on how to make money online. Seriously. I see so many people starting one and then going to forums asking “So, how do people make money online?” Well, if you didn’t know or don’t make money online, more than likely, you shouldn’t be in the niche.

Write something you are more familar with, maybe write about kittens? Hey, that was just a suggestion!

People blog exactly about what you’re blogging about. There’s no way of being fully unique in this niche, you just have to do your best to separate yourself from the herd. And no, stating “follow me on my journey to becoming rich” is not a good MMO blog. Why would I want to follow you when I can just follow myself on this brand new blog instead?

Just think about it, when a new site or product comes out that people can make money off of, you think you’re going to be the only one sharing it to the blogosphere? Nope, I don’t think so.

You’re at a disadvantage from the get-go. Yup, you heard right. You’re at more of a disadvantage than everyone else because you already have people disliking despising your blog and won’t even give you a chance because they feel your blog is one in a million.

More than likely they’re right.

I’m not trying to put people down, just stating what most people feel. And there are far more worst things about starting a make money online blog, and if you have any to add, feel free to comment and I’ll add it to this list!

Affiliated Marketing is Where the Real Money Is!

Written by admin on April 23, 2008 – -

I have recently started my affiliated marketing career and I have to say, you can definitely make more money from that than blogging.  Of course, you have to know what you are doing.

If you notice many successful bloggers who make money online, they didn’t start with blogging to make money online but a majority of them started with affiliated marketing.  For example, the infamous Shoemoney check.  Yeah, you guessed it!  That wasn’t from blogging, that was an affiliated marketing check.

Matter of fact, the majority of their money probably comes from affiliated marketing.  Some people are making 6-figure incomes a month from it.  And other’s are just making a few thousands.  But either way, I’m sure that’s a lot more money than most people would make in one year from blogging.

I have always said to not put all your eggs in one basket - never rely only on one source of income.  Again, we’ll use Shoemoney as an example.  He started with affiliated marketing and then started his blog (just another source of income).  If you rely on one source of income, that one month where you have a down month for income, then that’s going to be tough.

I mean, I make money online from making banner designs, blogging, selling advertisement, paid reviews, started my affiliated marketing, etc.  There are limitless ways of making money, you just need to be creative.

But all and all, if you haven’t tested out the affiliated marketing waters, you should try it.  The water may be cold when you first jump in, but I can guarantee it’ll feel a lot warmer once you’re in.

And I’ll post my affiliated marketing updates - failures, successes - and keep you guys updated from day one!

Oh, one last note, a lot of affiliated marketers spend money to make money.  So, if you have money to spend, you’re definitely on the right path.  Though, you can also do it without money but I heard it’s a lot harder.  I’ll try it out both ways!

Blogging for Search Engines

Written by admin on April 21, 2008 – -

We all know that most of our fellow bloggers don’t click on advertisements placed on your blog, especially pay-per-click ads like Google Adsense.  When it comes to people who actually click on ads, the majority of them are people who find your site via search engines.  So, should we be blogging for search engines?

This is a tough decision, but I wouldn’t dedicate your blogging for search engines, but think about it like you’re blogging for a wider audience that is looking for you

Say you know that there will be a topic that is highly searched for, maybe American Idol winners which happens every year or if people cared enough about Eli Manning, the New York Giants Quarterback who took his team to win the Superbowl, and his marriage to his sweetheart Abby McGrew, then I can almost guarantee you’ll get tons of visitors from search engines.  And when you get tons of search engine visitors, your chances increase when it comes to pay-per-clicking on your ads.

Now, I’m not saying to dedicate your entire blog to random things that become hot topics but it’s something to think about when you’re blogging.  Matter of fact, I remember having this conversation with a fellow blogger and how he told me he got tons of traffic from Technorati when he blogged about American Idol around the time when the show was on last year.  He mentioned how he got thousands of visitors from Technorati alone and that’s not even including major search engines like Google or Yahoo.

Of course, American Idol only lasts for a couple months at a time throughout the year so he hit a incredible spike in traffic but it eventually died off.

All and all, what I’m trying to say is if you blog for search engines, you’ll probably see a drastic increase in traffic and pay-per-clicks but I can’t guarantee your readership will increase.

But hey, just as long as it’s making you money, right? :P
